Some people have been to university and aren’t educated. Others haven’t, and are.

I also believe Canada and Canadians are destined for greatness. I am elderly, and so unlikely to see the manifestation of this, but I see it developing, and have faith that my grandchildren will not only see this, but will participate in its achievement.

Thank you for your contribution to our greatness

I have been a teacher/librarian much of my life and a life long learner. My job was not to teach children how to read but to be enthusiastic about learning and want to read. Thank you for your inspiring stories, your enthusiasm for Canada and your hope!

“The impediment to action advances action, what stands in the way becomes the way.” (Marcus Aurelius)

Marcus Aurelius insisted that something is only an obstacle if we decide it will be our obstacle.

If, for example, the path we are on is blocked, we'll find another way around. The obstacle on the path is what leads us to find the real path. How we think about the obstacle becomes our problem.

Such good thoughts.

Learning works for finding our path in the world. You got me thinking and writing again.

Believe it or not, it was questioning the existence of Jesus that brought me to know Him.

My faith isn’t about following others or the world. It’s listening and learning from the Spirit.

My faith or theology has changed as I learn and listen.

History can teach us, too.

As for teaching, I also followed that path for a time.

I was the outlier. My art classes were about discovery and fun. My math was also about thinking as well as learning basics.

I hated dittos. My kids wrote and did not fill in the blanks. They wrote math and again I did not use dittos.

I read to them every day (grade 1 - 5). We discussed. We pretend to be news reporters. We did the stock market for math.

Finally, I had to decide between teaching and working as a partner in our business. I chose the business.

Yes, life is taking each day, meeting people, helping as we can. And learning.

Your posts make me think.

My Dad did the same thing for me. He had a high school education only and though admitted to McGill twice into the Engineering program did not attend because it was his job to support his father.

Oh the conversations we had at the dinner table! Even when I (almost always) disagreed with him I think part of him was proud I had my own way of seeing the world and could support it with logic.

I did get a university education and was a teacher myself for over 25 years… I always carried the lessons I learned from my Dad with me.

Curiosity stimulating critical thinking should be today's 'common sense' behaviour. Canada is destined for greatness. Let's all work together with that goal in mind.

Thank you for sharing this insight in to some of your learnings and memories from your Dad. He sounds wonderful and you are a well-deserving recipient of his teachings. A father could not ask for more: his daughter using his advice as her life-long basis. Thank you, Arlene Dickinson.

Arlene and father feels like a truth that I can see in Arlene good to know where some of it grows from. The same for me some what my father was not educated that way.I have concerns about a lot of double standards that are extremely damaging to life in and on and beyond the earth I have made the statement that heaven is killing the earth not the rich and not any one of us and it is the most inconvenient truth and beyond and I believe that it can be fixed reversed healed many word that fit by knowing the wealth we each have in the proper order in the name of liberty and prosperity
